Reflexology or Zone Therapy has existed in some form for thousands of years. It is uncertain where it origionated but there is evidence of it's existence in China and Egypt 4000 thousand years BC and in American Indian Tribes several hundred years ago.

Reflexology in the modern Western world was brought to the attention of Medics between 1915-17 by a Doctor named William Fitzgerald in an article entitled " to stop that toothache, squeeze your toe". However it was a Physiotherapist, Eunice Ingham, who became the pioneer of Reflexology and formed the International Institute to teach the Ingham method of Reflexology.

Reflexology works on the premise that the feet are a mirror image of the body. Gentle pressure is applied to the feet by thumbs and fingers on reflex areas. Some reflexologists also work on the hands, face and ears. Reflexology is a holistic therapy which means that the whole body is treated not just the symptoms. The reflexologist observes the colour, texture and temperature of the feet and may pick up physical sensations in the foot that helps guide the treatment. Reflexology can be used as a one off relaxing treatment or as part of a session of treatments for longer lasting health promotion and general well-being maintenance.  Clients will be made comfortable either on a bed or a chair and treatments will be altered depending on the individual clients needs.

What to expect at an Indian Head Massage Session?

You can choose either a 30 or 60 minute session. A longer session allows for deeper relaxation. Indian Head Massage can be applied through light clothing such as a t-shirt or you may prefer to remove top garments in order that I can work using coconut oil or unscented body wax on your skin.

A typical session involves lying on a massage couch, your body covered with a blanket to allow for maximum relaxation and comfort. Initially I will ask you to lie on your front (face in a face hole) in order to massage your upper back, shoulders, neck and scalp. Following this will ask you to turn onto your back to continue the luxurious and deeply relaxing facial massage. A seated position may be preferable for those unable to lie on their front.

Please Note - Indian head Massage is generally a safe and effective treatment which can be applied to most people. However there are several conditions that it may not be suitable for. Please inform me if you are pregnant or have any medical condition prior to treatment.

Reiki (Ray-Key) is an ancient healing practice originating in Japan. It means "Universal Life Energy". Universal Life Force (Rei) is brought through personal energy (Ki) for natural balance and healing.

The Usui method was introduced in the 1800's and brought to the West in the 1940's. It's a very gentle healing method which can be used during pregnancy and throughout the life span from newborns to the very frail and elderly. It can also be used on animals.

Effects Reiki can have:

  • Supports the body to heal itself
  • Revitalises both the body and soul
  • Functions on all levels - mental, spiritual, physical and emotional
  • Re-establishes spiritual and mental well-being
  • Balances the body's energies
  • Frees blocked energy and promotes a state of total relaxation
  • Cleanses the body of toxins
  • Adjusts itself to the needs of you, the recipient
  • Works well with plants and animals
  • Extremely pleasant  holistic method of healing

What to expect at a Reiki Session?

The average treatment normally lasts 45 - 60 minutes. You will remain fully clothed and in a position which encourages complete relaxation, usually lying covered with a blanket. The treatment can also be done while you are seated if this is more comfortable.

The Universal Life Energy is channeled through the Practitioner's hands to the energy centres ( Chakras) of your body and assists your body to re-balance and heal itself. It can induce a deep sense of relaxation and well being during and after the treatment and as such re-establishes spiritual equilibrium and mental wellbeing.
